Manfaat dan Keamanan Obat Batuk yang Dijual Bebas pada Common Cold

Obat batuk yang dijual bebas atau over the counter (OTC) banyak dipakai sebagai terapi awal common cold, namun manfaat dan keamanannya masih dipertanyakan. Batuk akut karena infeksi saluran pernapasan atas (ISPA) adalah salah satu gejala yang paling banyak ditemui di praktik. Meski demikian, beberapa studi mengindikasikan bahwa obat batuk OTC memiliki efikasi yang tidak berbeda bermakna dengan plasebo. Obat batuk tertentu, seperti dextromethorphan dan codeine, juga banyak dikaitkan dengan kekhawatiran terkait aspek keamanannya.[1-3]

Gejala Batuk pada Common Cold

Pasien dengan common cold umumnya mengeluhkan gejala batuk, hidung tersumbat, pilek, nyeri tenggorokan, lemas, dengan atau tanpa demam. Batuk pada common cold adalah batuk akut yang berlangsung kurang dari 3 minggu.
