Prinsip shared decision making (SDM), atau pengambilan keputusan bersama, pada praktik klinis adalah komunikasi dua arah antara pasien dan dokter, saat mengambil keputusan penatalaksanaan penyakit yang diderita pasien.
Model SDM adalah salah satu komponen kunci pada keberhasilan praktik klinis. Proses yang harus dijalani oleh dokter dan pasien ini, bertujuan agar dapat mengambil keputusan bersama dalam memilih pemeriksaan, terapi, dan perencanaan perawatan lainnya. Pemilihan rencana harus berdasarkan bukti klinis/evidence based yang nantinya dapat menyeimbangkan risiko dan outcome terapi.[1,2]
Secara teori, terdapat 4 model dalam pengambilan keputusan medis yang disesuaikan dengan peran dokter sebagai individu yang menyediakan layanan medis, yaitu model paternalistik, model informatik (informed decision making), model dokter sebagai agen (physician-as-agent), dan model sharing (shared decision making).
